Although Darrelle Revis has been steadily recovering from knee surgery, coach Greg Schiano still hasn’t said whether the cornerback will make his debut in Saturday night’s preseason game at Miami.
The Bucs have been very deliberate with Revis, gradually increasing his workload throughout the preseason. He’s been participating in 11-on-11 drills this week.
“The plan so far, he’s been able to stick to the plan, the increase in workload and certainly you’re sore in general,’’ Schiano said Thursday. “Everybody is sore. But the part that we’re worried about, he’s doing well.''
Schiano said he’ll talk with Revis either Friday or Saturday to see how the cornerback is feeling. But the guess here is that Revis won’t play in Miami, on the same field where Revis suffered the injury as a member of the New York Jets.
Why risk a repeat or a setback?
Schiano has said several times he does not need to see Revis in a preseason game. The guy is a veteran and once missed all of training camp and the preseason while holding out with the Jets.
Preseason games do not matter. The only thing the Bucs need to focus on with Revis is having him ready for the regular-season opener.
