Time for a look at the top headlines from around the division:

ATLANTA FALCONS

The team signed eight players, including seven that were with the Falcons in the preseason, to the practice squad.

CAROLINA PANTHERS

David Newton writes that the rights to Jimmy Clausen, who was waived with an injury designation, have reverted back to Carolina after the quarterback cleared waivers. Clausen automatically goes on the injured reserve list. But the Panthers are likely to release him with an injury settlement.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

The Saints signed six players to their practice squad, including former Tulane quarterback Ryan Griffin.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Ira Kaufman points out that Doug Martin carried the ball only three times in the preseason. No wonder Tampa Bay’s offense looked so stagnant. There’s no doubt Martin will be getting a lot more carries in the regular season because he’s the focal point of this offense.
