All season long we’ve talked about how coordinator Gregg Williams has brought an aggressive attitude to the New Orleans defense. Now, here’s another statistic to prove it.
The Saints have blitzed (sent five or more rushers) on 47.9 percent of their defensive plays, according to ESPN’s Stats & Information. That’s second only to the New York Jets, who led the league by blitzing on 55.7 percent of their plays.
To add a little more perspective, let’s look at how often the rest of the NFC South teams have blitzed. Hint: It’s not very often. They’re all well below the league average (35.2 percent).
The Falcons have blitzed on 31.1 percent of their plays. That’s 20th in the league.
The Panthers rank No. 29, with a 23.2 percentage. The Buccaneers are last in the league, blitzing on just 18.1 percent of their plays.
