Hall

Got a bunch of questions in the mailbag, all asking if perhaps the Saints should go after cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who was released by the Raiders on Wednesday.

I say go for it. If it were the Falcons, I'd say no way because Hall got bounced from Atlanta once and he doesn't fit with what the new regime is trying to build. If it were the Bucs or Panthers, I'd say no way because they're both already very good at cornerback (besides Hall and Carolina's Steve Smith have history and you wouldn't want them on the same practice field).

But New Orleans makes sense on a lot of levels. The Saints already have shown a willingness to go for broke this season (i.e. trading for Jeremy Shockey, bringing in Jonathan Vilma). They're 4-4 and the expectations were for a lot more. The secondary hasn't been very good.

Despite his problems with the Raiders and Falcons, there's never been much doubt that Hall has physical talent. Plus, his price tag can't be too high these days.

Hall might not be a good fit in a lot of places, but New Orleans is one situation that would make some sense. In this setting, there might be more upside than downside.
