It’s no secret that Tampa Bay’s defense has struggled against the run this season. That’s not at all what coach Raheem Morris wanted when he spent the offseason preaching that his team would be aggressive and physical.
The Bucs haven’t even been close to that, and one statistic really demonstrates how bad it’s been. Tampa Bay leads the league in giving up big runs. The Bucs have allowed a league-worst 19 runs of more than 20 yards.
How do you fix this? Well, it’s pretty easy to see and the Bucs realize now that defensive tackles Chris Hovan and Ryan Sims aren’t run-stoppers. That’s part of the reason rookie Roy Miller got his first start Sunday.
That’s part of the reason the Bucs will have to give strong consideration to using their first-round pick (and it could be the first overall pick) on a defensive tackle.
