Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden did his best at his Monday press conference to shoot down the persistent rumors of him perhaps bolting for the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee.
Although that kind of talk hasn't always held true in the past (see Nick Saban), I believe Gruden in this case. He's got a good job in Tampa and was given a contract extension after last season. He's got a team in the playoff race.
Most important of all, Gruden has good ownership. The Glazer family pays him well and they're not very hands-on when it comes to football matters. That's a big difference from Gruden's experience in Oakland, where owner Al Davis might be the most involved owner in the NFL.
With the Bucs, Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen (another Oakland survivor), pretty much have free reign over the football side of things.
