Very cool story out of Atlanta’s win against Buffalo on Sunday. From the “things you never would have expected to see’’ department, the Falcons ended up with defensive end Kroy Biermann kicking off and the Falcons were all set to use backup quarterback Chris Redman as their punter.
Starting quarterback Matt Ryan even had to be used as the holder. It was all because the Falcons encountered a series of injuries that left their special teams in desperate situations. Punter (and kickoff man and holder) Michael Koenen suffered a concussion making a tackle. Place kicker Matt Bryant suffered a hamstring injury.
There’s a very real possibility Koenen and Bryant won’t be able to play in the season finale at Tampa Bay next week and that means the Falcons probably will have to go out and sign a kicker and a punter in the coming days.
