Saints bring back DE Spicer

The Saints just announced the flip side of their move of defensive end Charles Grant to injured reserve. They have signed veteran defensive end Paul Spicer to replace him.

Spicer is a 10-year veteran and was with the Saints in the preseason. Initially, Spicer was brought in as insurance because there was the possibility that Grant and fellow starting defensive end Will Smith might have to serve four-game suspensions to start the season.

As it turned out, Smith and Grant were not suspended and Spicer wasn’t needed. The Saints released him at the end of the preseason, but he had enough time to grasp the system of coordinator Gregg Williams. Spicer also played under Williams in Jacksonville.
