The Panthers announced Thursday afternoon that special teams coach Danny Crossman will not be retained for the 2010 season.

“This was an extremely hard decision and we wish Danny the very best,’’ general manager Marty Hurney said.

Crossman joined the team as an assistant to special teams coach Scott O’Brien in 2003. When O’Brien left two years later, Crossman was promoted to special teams coach.

The Panthers were known as having one of the league’s better special teams units during the O’Brien years, but that reputation faded under Crossman.
