Very nice move by the Falcons who just announced they've given contract extensions to defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux and wide receiver Michael Jenkins.

This is another step in what coach Mike Smith and general manager Thomas Dimitroff call "the process." Since taking over, they've said part of their plan is to build with young players and make sure the players who succeed stay with the team.

That's what they did when they gave Jenkins a four-year extension and Babineaux a five-year extension. Jenkins was a first-round choice in 2004 and Babineaux a second-rounder in 2005. Jenkins had struggled before emerging as a solid No. 2 starter this season and Babineaux also has blossomed.

Smith and Dimitroff want to make sure this team contends for a long time and they just locked up two important pieces of the puzzle.
