With the draft slowly getting closer, we’re starting to get some signs of who the Falcons are looking at.

They reportedly will have representatives at a private workout by Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon on Wednesday. They also reportedly will have a private workout with Boston College center Matt Tennant later this month.

A word of caution about pre-draft workouts and visits: Just because a team shows interest in a guy doesn’t mean he’s going to end up there. Teams have to do their homework and all teams go to workouts and conduct visits with lots of players.

That said, Weatherspoon and Tennant certainly seem to fit some of Atlanta’s needs. With Mike Peterson getting older, the Falcons need to get an heir apparent at outside linebacker. Weatherspoon is one of the top-rated linebackers, according to most experts, and could be available when the Falcons pick in the first round.

Tennant isn’t viewed as a first-round pick by most experts, but should go in the second or third round. The Falcons have veteran Todd McClure at center, but he’s getting older and it could be time to start finding his replacement.
