Word on Saints' opener could come early

As we get ready for a prime-time draft and a prime-time schedule announcement, modern technology continues to play an increasing role.

The regular-season schedule is supposed to be released tonight, but we might get a little preview a bit earlier. Via Twitter, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy has urged fans to ask Roger Goodell about who the Saints will open the season against when the commissioner does a chat on NFL.com at 2 p.m. ET today.

As the Super Bowl champions, the Saints will host the Thursday night game that opens the season. The common hunch is their opponent will be the Vikings, because that would be a rematch of the NFC Championship Game. If it’s not Minnesota, Atlanta or Pittsburgh would seem to be the next logical choices.
