Panthers grabbing up DTs

Here's a sign the Panthers might be more than a little worried about when Maake Kemoeatu can return from his ankle injury: They're suddenly signing every defensive tackle they can find.

They went out and signed J'Vonne Parker off Atlanta's practice squad Tuesday afternoon. They also signed defensive tackle Lorenzo Williams to the practice squad. They also placed defensive tackle Gary Gibson on the injured reserve list.

Gibson, along with Darwin Walker and Nick Hayden was one of the guys who tried to make up for Kemoeatu's absence in Sunday night's loss to New York, but didn't fare too well as the Panthers allowed the Giants to rush for 300 yards.

Parker joined the league as an undrafted free agent with Cleveland in 2005 and has appeared in 11 regular-season games. Williams played at the University of Missouri.

Kemoeatu became the first Carolina defensive starter to miss a game when he sat out against the Giants. Kemoeatu may not be the most talented defensive tackle around, but his 350 pounds take up a lot of space and the Panthers don't have another true run stuffer.
