NFC South scores in television ratings
By Pat Yasinskas
Courtesy of the National Football League and The Nielsen Company, we’ve got the television ratings for the opening week, and it was an impressive showing in the NFC South markets.
In all 30 NFL markets (San Francisco and Oakland share a market as do the two New York teams) an NFL broadcast was the most watched show of the week. The New Orleans market led the way.
With a 60.0 rating in the New Orleans area, the game between the Saints and Vikings was the most watched season opener in New Orleans and the largest share for any market during the week. In somewhat of a surprise, that game also topped the ratings in the Tampa Bay market with a 15.6 rating. The Buccaneers’ victory against Cleveland was blacked out in the Tampa Bay market.
The Panthers game with the Giants drew a 27.1 rating in Charlotte. In Atlanta, the Falcons’ loss to Pittsburgh had a 21.1 rating.
