It has taken a little bit, but we're going to get to hear Derrick Brooks' side of the story on his release Wednesday from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And the parting might not be as bitter as you might think. Brooks will talk to the media at One Buc Place on Friday morning and the news conference was arranged by the team.
As I said yesterday, there is no way it should have come down to Brooks getting released. He's too big of an icon in Tampa Bay for that and there could have been more graceful endings. But, as I also said yesterday, it might be a good idea to wait until Brooks talks to assume we know exactly how this situation played out.
Maybe the Bucs did try to seek a better ending and Brooks didn't want that. Maybe Brooks, a man with intense pride, wants to play elsewhere and maybe he doesn't.
We'll find out his side of the story Friday.
