It's possible the Tampa Bay Buccaneers missed out on their one -- and, perhaps, only -- chance at Denver quarterback Jay Cutler.
The Broncos have come out and issued a public statement in which they say they will not trade Cutler.
Although strange things can happen in the NFL, you have to take the statement at face value. It's strong and appears very definitive. It still remains to be seen if Cutler and the Broncos can put aside any hurt feelings that came after reports that the Bucs tried to trade for the quarterback in a three-team deal that would have sent New England's Matt Cassel to Denver. It didn't happen as Cassel was traded to Kansas City.
But it sure looks like the Broncos don't have any plans to let Cutler go. The Bucs are going to have to turn their focus elsewhere as they look for another quarterback to compete with Luke McCown for the starting job.
Hey, Chris Simms is available.
