METAIRIE, La. -- I know there's been some speculation by fans and media that New Orleans is a possible landing spot for Michael Vick.
The theory is that coach Sean Payton could take the multi-talented Vick and create some kind of "wildcat'' package that uses him in a variety of ways. Nice idea, but don't count on ever seeing it.
"I've read about our interest in certain players and putting in that system,'' Payton said during minicamp over the weekend. "Right now, we've got too many other things we've got to work on.''
Plus, there's one other very big reason why the Saints aren't considering using the "wildcat,'' like so many other teams across the league. In Drew Brees, they've got a quarterback who threw for over 5,000 yards last season even though Marques Colston, Jeremy Shockey and Reggie Bush each missed time with injuries.
"I just don't want to take snaps away from (Brees)'' Payton said.
That may be Payton's smartest offensive call of the season.
