Boarding call: Cam Newton International
By Pat Yasinskas
TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- I’m about to board a flight to Cam Newton International Airport.
Yeah, I know the official name of the facility in Charlotte still is Douglas Airport. But think about the long-term possibilities. That, apparently, is how the Panthers are looking at Newton as they get closer to taking him with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday night’s draft. They know there might be downside, but they seem willing to take a shot that the upside is greater than anyone else in this draft. I still haven’t heard anything about a last-minute change of direction.
I’ll be on the ground in Charlotte this evening and will check in with some Panthers people tonight. In the meantime, we’ve already got Sal Paolantonio in Charlotte and he’s keeping a close eye on the Panthers. If anything breaks in the meantime, look for Sal’s reports on our television side and in the news section of our main NFL page.
Sal and I haven’t discussed our game plan for Thursday yet, but I think it’s safe to say we’ll be out at Bank of America Stadium hours before the draft starts at 8 p.m. ET. We’ll be providing instant updates throughout the day and analysis throughout the entire three-day draft. Also, I'll be chatting live throughout Thursday night's first round. Stay tuned to the blog for more information on that.
