Around the NFC South
By Pat Yasinskas
Time for a quick look at some of the top stories from around the NFC South.
John DeShazier has a column on New Orleans receiver Devery Henderson, who is off to a strong start this season. That’s coming in particularly handy with top receiver Marques Colston missing time with an injury.
Raheem Morris said he doesn’t know the full extent of linebacker Quincy Black’s ankle injury. But the Tampa Bay coach said he’d be comfortable using Dekoda Watson in Black’s place on the strong side.
Mark Bradley writes that Matt Ryan might be more like Ben Roethlisberger than Peyton Manning. He’s got a point. Like Roethlisberger, Ryan has a knack for making big plays when they’re needed most.
Scott Fowler wonders if Thomas Davis’ career is over after the linebacker tore his ACL for the third time. Sadly, that may be the case. At very least, Davis won’t be back under his current contract, which was extended in the preseason. There’s a big option bonus that kicks in next year and it was built in so the Panthers could guard themselves against further injuries. There’s no way the Panthers pick up that option now.
