Panthers move on without Jeff Otah
By Pat Yasinskas
Some tough news for the Carolina Panthers. General manager Marty Hurney has just announced right tackle Jeff Otah will be placed on the injured-reserve list.
Rookie Byron Bell likely will take Otah’s place in the starting lineup. The Panthers also signed offensive lineman Reggie Wells to fill Otah’s roster spot.
This is a big loss for Carolina because, when healthy, Otah is one of the league’s top run blockers. But Otah has been in and out of the lineup this season with an assortment of injuries.
Otah missed all of last season with a knee injury. His long-term durability now becomes an issue. Unless Bell really steps forward, the Panthers might have to address right tackle in next year’s draft or free-agency period.
