Saints waiting to see on Mark Ingram

By Pat Yasinskas

New Orleans coach Sean Payton isn’t ready to rule out injured running back Mark Ingram for Sunday’s game at St. Louis.

The rookie has an injured heel and sat out Wednesday’s practice.

“I think with him it’s day-to-day because you’re really just dealing with soreness and a bruise,” Payton said. “Tomorrow morning we’ll see how he’s feeling and keep track of his progress.”

The Saints have plenty of depth at the position. Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas have been sharing playing time with Ingram. If Ingram’s not ready to go, the Saints could activate Chris Ivory, who began practicing Wednesday after missing the first seven games.

Right tackle Zach Strief (knee) returned to practice Wednesday for the first time in a month. Charles Brown has been starting in Strief’s place.
