Southern exposure for Week 11
By Pat Yasinskas
Time for our weekly look at where Sunday’s NFC South games will be televised throughout the nation.
Let’s turn to the maps on the 506.com to illustrate and we’ll start with the late game on CBS. The Falcons and Titans were flexed to a 4:15 p.m. ET start. In theory, flex games are supposed to come with better exposure.
I’m not sure that really rings true on this one. The Falcons and the Titans aren’t even the No. 1 game. The contest between San Diego and Chicago is and that game will be shown to most of the country. The Falcons and Titans pretty much will be televised only in the Southeast.
Now let’s move to the 1 p.m. games, which both will air on FOX. Tampa Bay is going to get some very big exposure, but that probably has a lot more to do with the Green Bay Packers than the Bucs. Tampa Bay and Green Bay is the dominant NFC game in the early time slot.
It will air in most of the Midwest, the South, some states in the West and parts of New England. Most importantly, the game will be shown in the Tampa Bay area. Since the game is on the road, Tampa Bay fans don’t have to worry about local television blackouts.
Carolina and Detroit play in the same time slot, but that game isn’t going to get nearly as much exposure. The game will be shown throughout North Carolina and Michigan and parts of South Carolina.
