Perspective on Saints' coin-flip woes
By Pat Yasinskas
NEW ORLEANS -- As we get ready for Monday night’s game between the Saints and Giants, let’s touch on something that’s been a season-long trend.
The Saints have not won a coin toss. Matt Willis of ESPN Stats & Information did some research that helps put this in perspective.
According to Willis, the odds of losing 10 consecutive coin flips to start a game are one in 1,024. Willis also points out that, in theory, a team should lose its first 10 coin tosses once every 32 seasons.
So the Saints are having a historic season in one regard. But the more impressive thing is that losing coin tosses hasn’t seemed to bother them. The Saints are 7-3.
