NFC South links: Saints sign first 2012 pick

The Falcons waived wide receiver Cody Pearcy. The 5-foot-11, 160 pounder was signed as a college free agent April 30.
Quarterback Cam Newton isn't the first Cam Newton to play for the Panthers. Brian Strickland of the team's website has the story of the star's lesser-known namesake.
New Orleans Saints
In his interview this week on "Late Show with David Letterman," Saints quarterback Drew Brees again responded to questions about the NFL's pay-for-performance bounty investigation. Brees drew a distinction between the terms "pay-for-performance" and "pay-to-injure" when asked about the legality of the program.
The Saints agreed to terms with defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, the team's third-round pick. Hicks, who agreed to a four-year deal, is the first 2012 draft pick with which the Saints have reached an agreement.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Retired Buccaneers great Jimmie Giles, enshrined last year in the Ring of Honor, has filed suit against the team over concussions suffered during his NFL career. The complaint seeks a jury trial. Though thousands of veteran NFL players have sued the league in the past several years because of injuries they received on the field, this is the first lawsuit that also names teams as defendants.
