Southern exposure for Week 5
By Pat Yasinskas
Let’s take our weekly look at the506.com to see which games involving NFC South teams will be shown in which television markets around the nation on Sunday.
This week is pretty easy because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a bye and we don’t have to wait until 72 hours before kickoff to find out if their game will sell out or not. It’s also easy because the New Orleans Saints play the San Diego Chargers in a nationally-televised game on NBC (with Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth) on Sunday night.
The variable games are the ones involving the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons in the early-afternoon time slot and the game between Seattle and Carolina in the late-afternoon slot.
The undefeated Falcons are starting to turn heads around the country and that’s reflected in this week’s map. The Atlanta-Washington (on FOX with Sam Rosen and John Lynch) game will be shown throughout most of the Southeast and even over into parts of Texas as well as Washington and surrounding markets.
The Carolina-Washington game won’t get nearly as much exposure. The FOX game, featuring Chris Myers and Tim Ryan, will be limited pretty much to the Carolinas and the Pacific Northwest.
