3-4 start good omen for Buccaneers
By Pat Yasinskas
A 3-4 start might sound less than ideal. But history says that might be good news for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They’re off to a 3-4 start -- and coming off a big road win at Minnesota -- under first-year coach Greg Schiano.
The last three times the Buccaneers started 3-4, they made the playoffs. Coincidentally, it happened three consecutive times.
In 1999, the Bucs rallied to finish 11-5. That team went on to lose to the St. Louis Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
In 2000, the Bucs started 3-4 but finished 10-6 before losing to Philadelphia in the first round of the playoffs. The 2001 team also started 3-4 and went on to finish 9-7 before again losing to Philadelphia in the first round of the playoffs.
