Where they rank on offense, defense

By Pat Yasinskas

The NFL just released its updated offensive and defensive rankings.

Although the New Orleans Saints had their biggest win of the season, a 31-27 victory against Atlanta on Sunday, they still rank No. 32 in total defense. The Saints are No. 31 against the run and No. 31 against the pass.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t far behind. They’re No. 30 in total defense, but they have a huge disparity in their numbers. The Bucs have the league’s No. 1 run defense, but they’re No. 32 against the pass.

The Falcons are No. 20 in overall defense (No. 25 against the run and No. 19 against the pass). The Carolina Panthers are No. 15 in overall defense (No. 16 against the run and No. 16 against the pass).

The Saints have the division’s top-ranked offense. They’re No. 4 in the NFL overall (No. 28 in rushing and No. 2 in passing). The Falcons are right behind the Saints. Atlanta is No. 6 overall (No. 26 in rushing and No. 4 in passing).

The Buccaneers are tied for No. 13 in overall offense. They rank No. 11 in rushing and No. 15 in passing. The Panthers are No. 23 in overall offense (No. 15 in rushing and No. 17 in passing).
