The Atlanta Falcons turned a corner today.
They went into Lambeau Field and beat the Green Bay Packers. That's a whole lot more significant than previous victories against Detroit and Kansas City.
The victory means the Falcons can do more than beat bad teams. In fact, you can officially declare the Falcons a good team. They went into one of the NFL's toughest venues and beat a good team.
I've said all along I believe Mike Smith is the right coach for the Falcons, but I've also said they're a work in progress. They still are, but they're now well ahead of schedule.
This game was a crucial moment in Smith's short tenure. It was a confidence builder because the Falcons showed they can do more than beat the teams they're supposed to. They now have shown they can win a game they shouldn't. That makes anything possible the rest of the way.
