Drew Brees struggling on deep throws
By Pat Yasinskas
For almost all of his tenure with the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees has been one of the NFL’s most efficient quarterbacks.
But it hasn’t been that way the last three games. In losses to the Giants, Falcons and 49ers, Brees has been intercepted nine times. In particular, Brees has had trouble on downfield passes. Both of Brees’ interceptions in Sunday’s loss to New York came on throws of more than 10 yards.
In the last three games, Brees has no touchdowns and six interceptions on 43 attempts of more than 10 yards, according to ESPN Stats & Information. In the first 10 games, Brees had 13 touchdowns and six interceptions on 130 attempts of more than 10 yards.
What’s the difference? I think some of the blame can be placed on Brees’ decisions. But I also think injuries on the offensive line have played a role.
I also think that the wide receivers haven’t done a great job of getting separation and that’s taking a toll on Brees.
