Around the NFC South
By Pat Yasinskas
Time for a run through some odds and ends from around the division:
Jay Adams reports the Falcons will have 17 prospects in for tryouts during this weekend’s rookie minicamp. The list is highlighted by Florida Atlantic quarterback Graham Wilbert. There also will be some players with local ties, including Georgia running back Richard Samuel, Georgia Tech long-snapper Tyler Morgan and West Georgia defensive back Kelly Dawsey.
Denver Broncos coach John Fox got a warm reception as he played in a golf tournament in Charlotte. Fox deserved at least that much. Although his tenure as coach of the Panthers didn’t end well, he had some very good moments, including the franchise’s only trip to the Super Bowl.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Larry Holder writes that there is a lot of uncertainty about who will be in various starting positions. The biggest revelation might be that coach Sean Payton said free safety Malcolm Jenkins could move to nickelback in certain situations to help rookie Kenny Vaccaro get on the field. I’ve got a feeling the Saints are going to be doing everything possible to get Vaccaro on the field.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Scott Reynolds writes that the next order of business appears to be a contract extension for receiver Mike Williams. Now that the draft is over, general manager Mark Dominik is expected to resume negotiations with Williams’ agent. It makes sense for the Bucs to lock up Williams for the long term now. If he has another strong season and hits free agency, his price tag could go much higher.
