More on Cam Newton and Falcons
By Pat Yasinskas
On Monday, we heard that Cam Newton, who grew up in the Atlanta area, said he still is a fan of the Falcons, except the two times a year they play the Carolina Panthers.
That prompted Kristen Balboni from ESPN Stats & Information to look up how Newton has fared against the Falcons as compared to the rest of the NFC South.
Newton is 1-3 against Atlanta with a 58.6 completion percentage. He’s thrown for six touchdowns and five interceptions (but Newton did rush for 202 yards and two touchdowns in two games against the Falcons last season).
Against Tampa Bay and New Orleans, Newton is a combined 4-4 with a 59.3 completion percentage, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
But I don’t think those numbers have anything to do with Newton, who also has said he plays with a chip on his shoulder against Atlanta, being a fan of the Falcons.
Atlanta’s had a very good team since Newton has been in the league. New Orleans was No. 32 in overall defense last season and Tampa Bay was No. 31.
