Revisiting strength of schedules
By Pat Yasinskas
As the clock continues to tick toward training camp, let’s help you get ready for football by revisiting a topic that first came up when the schedule came out back in April.
Let’s look at strength of schedule.
The NFL’s schedule makers weren’t kind to two NFC South teams. Based on the 2012 win-loss record of opponents, the Carolina Panthers have the NFL’s hardest schedule.
Carolina’s opponents were a combined 138-116-2 in 2012 for a .543 winning percentage. The New Orleans Saints are just behind the Panthers. The winning percentage of their opponents was .539, which ties them with Detroit and St. Louis for second.
The Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have schedules that are more in the middle of the pack. Atlanta’s opponents had a .504 winning percentage and Tampa Bay’s opponents were .500.
