Will Revis play in preseason finale?
By Pat Yasinskas
Starters generally play sparingly or don’t play at all in the final preseason game. But that doesn’t mean you can rule out Tampa Bay cornerback Darrelle Revis from playing Thursday night.
“Just because a lot of guys aren’t playing doesn’t mean that Darrelle won’t play," coach Greg Schiano said Sunday. “It doesn’t mean he will play, either."
The Bucs have been very deliberate with the progression of Revis as he comes back from knee surgery. They gradually have increased his workload to the point where he’s participating in full-team drills. The next step is for him to play in a game.
But it remains to be seen if that will come Thursday night against Washington or in the regular-season opener against the New York Jets.
“He’s on his own schedule," Schiano said. “I always say that meaning he has a big part in it. We’re going to make the decision together, but I rely so much on his feedback and so does (director of sports medicine and performance) Todd (Toriscelli)."
Although having Revis ready for the regular-season opener is the obvious goal, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if he plays a series or two Thursday night.
