Saints leave Bush, Ellis at home
By Pat Yasinskas
The Saints left injured running back Reggie Bush and defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis home as they traveled to Tampa on Saturday afternoon.
No surprises there. Bush hasn’t practiced all week because of a knee injury and the Saints should be able to get by the Bucs with Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell anchoring the ground game.
Ellis is a bit of a different story. He got some practice time this week after sitting out with a knee injury since hurting it in Week 7. It’s pretty obvious the Saints think Ellis is close to being ready. But there’s no sense going too fast here.
It’s much more important to have Ellis at full strength for next week’s game against New England than it is to put him out there against the Bucs. I think the Saints also will take a conservative approach with injured cornerbacks Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter. Although they both made the trip with the team, Greer and Porter probably sit as Randall Gay and Malcolm Jenkins start.
