In another sign the hip injury to rookie left tackle Sam Baker could keep him out for an extensive period, the Falcons just announced they have signed tackle Wayne Gandy.
That's the best possible move the Falcons could make at this point. Gandy may be old, but he's got history with the Falcons. He was a starter in 2006 and into 2007 before suffering an injury. Yes, the coaching staff and system is new to Gandy, but he'll at least be comfortable in his surroundings.
Health and conditioning might be issues for Gandy and the Falcons may need to split the time between him and veteran Todd Weiner, who also has some health issues. Gandy and Weiner aren't going to dominate, but they at least have enough experience to use their smarts to try to protect rookie quarterback Matt Ryan's blind side.
