Stat shows good and bad news for Saints
By Pat Yasinskas
I just received a note from ESPN Stats & Information and it shows that the position of the NFL’s top-scoring team this season could be a good or a bad thing.
The Saints averaged 31.9 points a game. Long-term history shows that’s generally a good thing. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the teams that led the league in scoring are 25-8 (.756) in the divisional round, including 19-5 (.792) at home.
However, teams that have led the league in scoring in recent years haven’t fared very well. The league leaders have lost three of the last five times in the divisional round.
