Saints make low tender on Bell

Mike Triplett reports the Saints have made the lowest tender possible to free agent Mike Bell.

That tender would pay Bell a little over $1 million this year and also gives the Saints the right to match any offer he receives from another team. But the Saints would not receive any compensation if Bell signs with another team.

I think the Saints are handling this wisely. Bell was part of the rotation at tailback last season and the Saints would like to keep him. But they’ll only do that at the tender or match a reasonable offer by another team.

The Saints also have Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and Lynell Hamilton. Losing Bell wouldn’t destroy them at running back, and keeping him at a reasonable rate would mean lots of depth at this position.
