There are reports out there the Bucs have strong interest in Green Bay defensive end Aaron Kampman.

I say go get him. Yeah, Kampman’s coming off a down year, but that was mainly because the Packers switched to a 3-4 defense that didn’t suit his skills and he had some injury problems. This guy is a solid player. He’s not Julius Peppers, but he also doesn’t have the downside or the price tag that Peppers does.

If Tampa Bay ownership wants to send a signal to its fans that they want to win, the Bucs can make a big statement by getting Kampman. They need a pass rusher and he is one. They’re not going to find a pass rusher who can make an immediate impact in the draft, mainly because they need to use their top pick on a defensive tackle.

Kampman is an established pass rusher. More importantly, Kampman is a leader. That’s something the Bucs didn’t really have last year. I’ve been in Green Bay’s locker room and it was instantly obvious Kampman was a leader and someone you want in your locker room.

Go get him.
