TAMPA, Fla. -- Just finished with the interview session after the Bucs' morning minicamp practice. I'll be filing a couple of more extensive reports in a bit, but just wanted to bring you up to speed on some of the developments.
Linebacker Barrett Ruud, who had skipped all 14 organized training activities sessions, confirmed his absence was due to his desire for a new contract. Ruud still wants that and said he showed up for minicamp because it's mandatory. He also said there have been no talks of an extension with the Bucs. He didn't rule out the possibility of holding out in training camp, but said he hoped the situation could be resolved before then.
Guard Arron Sears was not present for personal reasons. Quarterback Brian Griese wasn't here, either, and that was no surprise. Griese has asked to be traded or released. The Bucs have held on to him this far in hope of getting something in a trade. But that's not likely to happen and they'll probably release him before training camp.
