The Saints are going ahead and implementing their plan to evacuate New Orleans as Hurricane Gustav continues to threaten the region. After exploring several options, the Saints made a plan Thursday to go to Indianapolis where they can practice at Lucas Oil Field.
The team will leave New Orleans on Sunday. The Saints will begin practicing in Indianapolis on Monday. Obviously, it remains to be seen how much the storm will impact New Orleans. But the current plan is to practice in Indianapolis throughout the week and return to Louisiana on Friday.
The Saints are scheduled to open the season at the Superdome on Sept. 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to the Associated Press, Hurricane Gustav moved into Cuba's Isla de Juventud as a Category 4 hurricane on Saturday. Forecasters said it could gain yet more power, becoming a top-scale hurricane with 160 mph winds in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday, before weakening a little ahead of a likely collision on Monday with the U.S. coast.
