FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- There was a very interesting series of events in Tuesday afternoon’s practice between the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars. As is often the case when interesting things happen with the Falcons, receiver Roddy White was involved.
About midway through practice, White caught roughly a 30-yard pass from Matt Ryan. The coverage was decent, but the ball was perfectly thrown. White kept going and, near the end zone, got into a little tussle with Jacksonville cornerback Rashean Mathis. There was some pushing and shoving and the two had to be separated. There also was a lot of talking going on.
I couldn’t quite hear what was being said, but let me give you a little background. A few plays earlier, Atlanta third-string quarterback John Parker Wilson threw a pass that was picked off by Jacksonville linebacker Justin Durant. The Jacksonville defense celebrated that one a bit.
Again, I couldn’t hear White, but I think it was pretty obvious his actions were some sort of statement to the Jacksonville defense about not getting too excited about intercepting a third-string quarterback because the first-team offense just might come back and light you up.
