NFC South: NFL Europe

WATFORD, England -- They're a continent away from New Orleans, but Wednesday was a homecoming, of sorts, for Saints coach Sean Payton and offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Doug Marrone.
Both have history here in England and that was a big topic with the British media. Payton was asked about his days with the Leicester Panthers, an English professional team that played American-rules football. Payton spent one season with the Panthers in the late 1980s.
"It was six months living there," Payton said. "I met a lot of great people. We traveled all over England to play our games. The fans were great. Mainly the friendship is what you remember the most, people that truly enjoyed being around the game and following our team."
It's been a long time and a lot of people forget, but Payton was a pretty good player. Payton was an All-American quarterback at Eastern Illinois and, besides playing for Leicester, played in the Canadian Football League, Arena Football League and with the Chicago Bears.
Marrone played for NFL Europe's London Monarchs in 1991 and '92. A British television crew got Marrone to talk about his time in London while he held up a Monarchs T-shirt.
