The Falcons made a couple of roster moves just before heading out for their first practice Saturday morning.

They announced the signing of linebacker Jamie Winborn and released linebacker Rashad Bobino. Winborn has been a part-time starter throughout his previous eight seasons in the NFL, but it's likely the Falcons are viewing him as a dependable backup and special-teams player.

They've got Curtis Lofton, Mike Peterson and Stephen Nicholas ticketed as their starters at the moment. Winborn and Coy Wire can provide some experience behind the starters.

Winborn is also a top special-teams player. He led the Broncos with 11 special-teams tackles in 2007.

There are a couple of minor roster moves in the NFC South today.

The Saints signed undrafted rookie offensive tackle Michael Brown and the Falcons signed linebacker Rashad Bobino. The Saints also waived receiver Chris Vaughn.

Brown was a two-season starter for Mississippi State after transferring in from Florida. Bobino was a four-year starter at Texas. Both players were signed after trying out during recent minicamps.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- I meant to post an item on this yesterday, but forgot with everything else going on. The Falcons have four players who are getting tryouts during their minicamp.

Here's the list: Wide receiver Troy Bergeron, offensive lineman Chris Jamison, offensive lineman Ronald Thompson and linebacker Rashad Bobino. All are undrafted rookie free agents. The Falcons will make decisions on signing them soon after the minicamp ends Sunday.
