The Tampa Bay Buccaneers just announced a bunch of roster moves. The biggest name on the list was cornerback Ashton Youboty, who was released.

He was signed during camp when the Bucs had some injuries in the secondary. But he also was viewed as possible insurance if Aqib Talib was suspended. The team said Saturday night it has been told by the NFL that Talib will not be suspended during the 2011 season, so that made Youboty expendable.

The Bucs also waived receiver Aundrae Allison, cornerback Vince Anderson, tight end Collin Franklin, defensive end Brandon Gilbeaux, receiver Detron Lewis, punter Robert Malone, receiver Jock Sanders, and fullback Rendrick Taylor. They also waived/injured guard Brandon Carter.

The most interesting statistic of the weekend comes to us from Tampa Bay’s media relations department.

In Sunday’s victory against Carolina, the Buccaneers became the first team since Dallas on Nov. 24, 2002 to start seven rookies and win. Receivers Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, safety Cody Grimm, guard Ted Larsen, fullback Erik Lorig and linebacker Dekoda Watson all started.

Five other rookies -- running back LeGarrette Blount, tackle Derek Hardman, punter Robert Malone, receiver Preston Parker and defensive tackle Al Woods -- also got playing time Sunday.

TAMPA, Fla. -- A couple of quick notes on the Buccaneers before I head into the locker room for interviews.

Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman has been named as the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in leading the Buccaneers to a come-back victory in Cincinnati.

The flip side to last night’s news that punter Chris Bryan had been waived is that the Bucs have signed punter Robert Malone. He came out of Fresno State this year and spent part of the offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bucs also signed linebacker Mike Balogun to the practice squad and cut linebacker J.D. Folsom from the practice squad.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t made any official announcement yet, but they have released punter Chris Bryan.

ESPN’s John Clayton, citing a source, reports Bryan was released Tuesday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Bucs worked out punters Brent Bowden, T.J. Conley and Robert Malone. Bowden was drafted by the team this year, but the Bucs cut him at the end of the preseason. It’s likely the Bucs are in the process of signing one of the three guys who worked out today.

Bryan averaged just 37.4 yards on 23 punts in the first four games.
