Martin Fennelly has a great column on Tuesday’s event, where Tom McEwen was declared a “Tampa Bay Treasure’’ by Saint Leo University. Martin sums up the event very nicely. Tampa Bay center Jeff Faine, who has missed the last three games with a strained quadriceps, said he will attempt to practice this afternoon.
Jeff Duncan has a feature on New Orleans cornerback Leigh Torrence. The guy has been a career backup and special-teams player. But he came up big for the Saints on Sunday night.
I don’t think there truly is a “best team in the NFC’’ right now. But I think Jeff Schultz is right on when he says the Falcons have a chance to prove they deserve that tag.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Injured cornerback Elbert Mack highlight’s Tampa Bay’s list of inactives for the game against the Saints.
Mack’s absence leaves the Bucs with Torrie Cox and Derrick Roberson as the backup cornerbacks to starters Ronde Barber and Aqib Talib. Receiver Yamon Figurs, cornerback Mike Mickens, guard Shawn Murphy, tackle James Lee, receiver Brian Clark and defensive tackle Dre Moore also are inactive for the Bucs.
Byron Leftwich has been designated as the third quarterback.

The Bucs just announced they have claimed guard Shawn Murphy off waivers from the Miami Dolphins.
Not much to read into here. The Bucs simply are taking a shot on a guy who was a fourth-round draft pick by Miami last year. They’re sticking with Davin Joseph and Jeremy Zuttah as their starters and they’ve got an experienced interior lineman backing them up in Sean Mahan.
Basically, this means two things: The Bucs aren’t counting on Arron Sears, who’s been away from the team for months while dealing with a private matter, returning. It also means Murphy gets a free trip to London this weekend.
