ESPN Playbook’s Paul Lukas has a massive project -- Uni Watch Power Rankings -- that’s worth checking out. As the title suggests, he’s ranking uniforms from the four major professional sports. That’s 122 franchises.
He also breaks them down by sport, and the NFC South teams don’t fare all that well in the NFL section.
Only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came out looking good. Their uniforms were ranked No. 10 in the NFL. Good thing they changed to the pewter theme in the mid-1990s. I’m no fashion expert, but I’ve got a feeling the old “Creamsicle’’ uniforms would have ended up very low on the totem pole.
The Saints are No. 22 and the Falcons are No. 25. These rankings are all subjective. But I don’t see any serious flaws in the uniforms New Orleans and Atlanta wear.
But I am a little surprised the Carolina Panthers came in at No. 30. I’d put them somewhere in the teens or low 20s. But Lukas’ main gripe with Carolina’s uniforms seems to be that he thinks they’re too symbolic of the 1990s.
If you disagree with Lukas (or even if you agree), head over to SportsNation, where you can do your own uniform rankings.
