A quick trip to catch up on some minor events around the division.

  • The Saints signed veteran offensive guard Terrence Metcalf on Monday. This is purely a move for depth. The Saints have one of the best starting tandems in the league with Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks. Metcalf spent most of his career as a backup with Chicago. He was released by the Bears last season and went to camp with Detroit, but didn’t make the team. Since he’s not a true unrestricted free agent, Metcalf doesn’t count against the final eight plan that limits who the Saints can sign.
  • Tampa Bay’s Derrick Ward returned to workouts Monday after missing some time with a dental issue.
  • As we’ve seen many times before, the Saints are more than a football team to Louisiana. They’re going down to an area hit hard by the oil spill Tuesday and they’ll be meeting with politicians and fans. Don’t think there’s much the Saints can do to stop the disaster, but they might be able to lighten some moods and tensions.
  • D. Orlando Ledbetter takes a look at how the Falcons used the no-huddle offense last year. I say use it more this season.
  • Cat Crave takes a look at Carolina’s five biggest games this season.
