Some 49ers fans I've heard from are looking forward to the team's Dec. 14 game against the Cardinals for a shot at the NFC West lead.
It's looking like a good matchup. I'm anxious to watch that game.
First things first, though. The 49ers' dream scenario plays out only if they beat the Seahawks and the Vikings beat the Cardinals on Sunday.
The Seahawks have appeared a bit resigned to their fate this season, in my view. A spark seems to be missing. What should we expect from them in their first home game in nearly a month and their first game since general manager Tim Ruskell resigned? The 49ers clearly have more on the line, but Ruskell's resignation drives home the message that jobs are on the line. Might coach Jim Mora succeed in parlaying that into at least a short-term boost for Seattle?
This game his pivotal for the 49ers. The pressure is on them, not on a Seattle team going nowhere this season. Is Alex Smith ready to claim his first road victory as a starter since a Week 2 game against the Rams in 2007? Will the 49ers' defense smother a Seattle offense still searching for an identity?
It's tough to find reliable answers through all the uncertainty. Should be a fun weekend in the NFC West.
