Around the NFC West: July 18, 2013
Good morning, NFC West.
Doug Baldwin of the Seattle Seahawks sparked conversation Wednesday by shifting focus from negative off-field incidents involving a small number of NFL players to positive off-field contributions involving a larger number of them.
At issue: whether the media should do more to balance the negative with the positive.
Of course, a player getting into trouble risks his availability for games, his value to his team, his value to fantasy teams and his playing future. So, if we accept the premise that fans and media care most about the on-field product, it follows that we'll care more about what affects that product. The negative stuff is more relevant in that context.
That doesn't mean we should ignore all the positive contributions NFL players make. Thanks to Baldwin for the reminder.
