John Crumpacker of the San Francisco Chronicle says interim 49ers coach Mike Singletary doesn't plan to change his personality anytime soon.

Also from Crumpacker: The decision to start Shaun Hill at quarterback reflects a move away from the way offensive coordinator Mike Martz wants to move the ball.

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat gets Vernon Davis' side of the story on the flap with Singletary. Davis insists he never talked back to the coach on the sideline.

Also from Maiocco: Singletary says he wasn't talking about Davis when he referred to "cancers" on the team.

Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News says Singletary did not dispute Michael Silver's report about the coach targeting "cancers" in the locker room after the Seattle game.

Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News says no one person can fix all that ails the 49ers, but watching Singletary try should be fun.

Darren Urban of azcardinals.com says coach Ken Whisenhunt left open the door for Tim Hightower to start at running back, but no change is imminent.

Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic cites sources saying Edgerrin James feels as though his days in Arizona are all but finished.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic says the Cardinals need more interceptions from their secondary. The team has three interceptions total, two by the secondary.

Paola Boivin of the Arizona Republic takes a balanced look at James' complaints and says such talk doesn't matter as long as they come from a respected player.

Mike Tulumello of the East Valley Tribune says the Cardinals seem to be choosing their words carefully when discussing James' role.

Also from Tulumello: The Cardinals were surprised when the Panthers continued focusing on stopping the run even when Arizona spread the field.

Clare Farnsworth of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer says the Seahawks expect Lofa Tatupu and Patrick Kerney to play against the Eagles, good news for the team after both suffered injuries Sunday.

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times says Matt Hasselbeck's status remains in question while the Seattle quarterback holds a second meeting with a specialist to sort through back issues.

Also from O'Neil: University of Washington athletic director Scott Woodward hopes to speak with Seahawks assistant coach Jim Mora, but not necessarily about a job.

Bill Coats of Around the Horns says the Rams are one win away from contending in the division. Also, safety Oshiomogho Atogwe is keeping a low profile after picking off 11 passes in his last 15 games.

Jeff Gordon of stltoday.com quotes Rams coach Jim Haslett as defending quarterback Marc Bulger. Gordon outlines mitigating factors behind Bulger's inconsistent performance. Pass protection, mistakes by rookie receivers, Torry Holt's disappearance and poor production at tight end made the list.
